Salted Dark Chocolate Medallions with Sesame & Creatine

I am so excited to share with you a brand new recipe using a powerful supplement called Creatine.

Naked Nutrition was kind enough to send me their Creatine powder to try out. You’ve probably heard of Creatine before as a supplement that can be helpful for your health. But what are the real benefits of Creatine? And how do you use it?

Read on to find out!

What is Creatine?

Creatine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in your muscle cells and brain, and it can be consumed from protein-rich foods and supplements. The great thing about high quality creatine supplements is that it allows your body to consume a higher amount of creatine than what you may consume from whole foods.

Why Should I Take Creatine?

Creatine helps you to supply energy to your cells and muscles, improving total work load or volume in gym sessions, promotes brain health, increases cell hydration, reduces muscle mass breakdown, improves growth potential of muscle, among other benefits that have been studied in scientific literature.

How do you take Creatine?

The recommended intake for Creatine is 3-5 g per day. Naked Nutrition’s Creatine supplement contains only Creatine Monohydrate. No other fillers or anything! Plus 1 scoop is 5g of Creatine, approx 1 day’s dosage.

You can dissolve Naked Nutrition’s Creatine into any liquid, such as water, milk or a smoothie. This makes it super easy to add it into your healthy nutrition plan.

Whole food sources are another great way to ensure you’re eating enough each day. For instance, in 4 oz of chicken, there is about 0.443 g Creatine, 4 oz of tuna has 0.455 g Creatine, 4 oz of salmon has 0.511 g Creatine.

Another cool thing I love about Naked Nutrition’s Creatine is they do independent heavy metals and allergen testing on their products which are listed on their website. You can see that their heavy metals and allergens are very very low. Great news for people who are looking for really clean supplements!

Creatine Recipe

I wanted to come up with a fun way to integrate Creatine into my healthy eating plan each day. I have always found that meal prepping helps me to be consistent with my healthy nutrition approach, so I devised an easy and delicious way to meal prep enough creatine goodness for the whole week.

My Salted Dark Chocolate Medallions with Sesame Seeds and Creatine were the ultimate healthy sweet treat!

These indulgent-feeling chocolate discs are fantastic for those of us with a sweet tooth, but also want to feel like we are nourishing our bodies with amazing functional ingredients.

These sweet treats are also sweetened with stevia, as opposed to traditional sugar, are gluten free and can be made vegan too, if desired.

Salted Dark Chocolate Medallions with Sesame and Creatine

Makes 7 medallions

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup stevia sweetened and/or allergen friendly chocolate chips

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 7 scoops Naked Nutrition Creatine

  • Toppings: 2 tbsp sesame seeds, 1 tsp sea salt or pink himalayan salt

Instructions:

  1. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl with the coconut oil.

  2. Microwave for 20-30 seconds to start melting the chocolate chips and coconut oil.

  3. Stir well to help mix the ingredients and gently melt the chocolate chips further. If needed, microwave the mixture again for 10 seconds at a time, stirring well between heating periods to ensure the chocolate does not burn and the mixture becomes glossy and smooth.

  4. Add the Naked Nutrition Creatine into the chocolate mixture and stir well to combine.

  5. Place a non-stick mat onto a small tray.

  6. Scoop tablespoons of the chocolate mixture onto the non-stick mat, creating round discs of chocolate. This should make about 7 medallions.

  7. Top each medallion with a small pinch of salt and a pinch of sesame seeds to cover the top.

  8. Place the small tray into the freezer till set, usually about 1 hour in the freezer.

  9. Keep the medallions in the freezer for a crisp texture, stored in an airtight container. Since the medallions contain coconut oil, the medallions will start to melt when out at room temperature for too long.

Want to try different flavors for these Creatine healthy sweet treats? Try these:

  • Mix 1 tbsp of your fave nut butter into the chocolate mixture for a nutty chocolate twist.

  • Top the medallions with small or chopped raspberries for a refreshing sweet bite to accompany the dark chocolate.

  • Chop some crystallized ginger and sprinkle on top of the medallions for a flavorful spicy hit

What other flavor combos can you come up with? And how do you incorporate Creatine into your daily eating? Let me know below!
