Easy Easter Dirt Cakes

It’s almost Easter!

Easter is right around the corner so here is a quick and easy sweet treat that you can likely make with what you have in your pantry!

These Easy Easter Dirt Cakes are super simple to make but are over-the-top cute! They would be a great activity for kiddos to decorate and really make their own. Plus the kids will never know that this sweet treat is actually low in sugar!

Easy Easter Dirt Cakes

A Healthier Dessert

Kids get so much candy during Easter that I wanted to make a low sugar or sugar free dessert that was easy to make at home, without sacrificing flavor.

If you haven't seen dirt cakes before, they are usually a layered dessert starting with chocolate pudding on the bottom, then a layer of crushed chocolate cookies, and possibly more layers of candy.

For this version, the chocolate pudding is refined sugar free. It is then layered with a higher protein version of faux cookie crumbs, and some coconut flakes for a good dose of healthy fats.

When it comes to toppings, I used an Easter silicone mold and candy melts to create cute yellow chicks and white bird houses. Instead of candy melts, you could also use melted chocolate chips or make your own homemade gummies.

If you don't have a silicone mold, here are a few more awesome topping ideas:

  • Fruit snacks
  • Gummies: there are some sugar free varieties available nowadays too
  • Easter candy such as mini easter eggs, Peeps, M&Ms (as seen in the photos) etc.
  • Fruit: on Pinterest, I saw someone put a strawberry in the chocolate pudding with just the green of the strawberry leaves sticking out. The dirt cake looked just like a garden!
  • Chopped nuts
  • Chocolate chips: Lily's Sweets, which are sweetened with stevia, are my favorite

Let your imagination run wild! Plus, I love the idea of setting up a toppings bar and letting the kids decorate their own dirt cakes however they like!
