Making Learning Special with Madonna Lazo-Smith

Special Guest Blogger!

Today, we have a super special guest blogger!

Please welcome Madonna Lazo-Smith to the blog! She is an incredible mother, entrepreneur and speech-language pathologist.

I am so honored to bring Madonna to the blog so she can share her mission with you and why we are teaming up for a very special event.

Madonna from Making Learning Special

Hello there! My name is Madonna Lazo-Smith, and I am a speech-language pathologist. I have been in the field for about seven years now and counting.

Making Learning Special

Being a bilingual English-Tagalog individual, I was intrigued by language and wanted to learn about different aspects of it.

I randomly stumbled upon my career as I was trying to figure out what to do in life and how to make a big impact. I continued to have a passion for teaching, so I knew I wanted to be some type of educator. I stumbled across speech-language pathology and automatically fell in love with it as it combined what I enjoyed and valued, teaching and individualization.

Speech-language pathology definitely provides that plus more!

Since then, I have worked in a variety of settings from private to medical to the educational settings and with a range of students and clients from pediatrics to geriatrics.

My heart has always gone back to the working with kids, and now having a kiddo myself, it has really helped define my mission as an individual.

After returning to work from maternity leave, I decided I wanted to finally open up my own private practice to stretch my mission and to reach as many families as I can.

Like I tell my little guy, “Sky’s the limit, NOPE! You have no limit!”

There’s so much potential in achieving your goals and helping those around you.

Hence, my mission is to provide my knowledge, background, expertise and experiences both professionally and personally to help not only the individual with speech and language needs but to also encourage and enhance the relationships they have with their loved ones and those around them.

Free Virtual Storytime

I whole-heartedly believe that parents/caregivers are a child’s first teachers, and I want to promote working together as a team to foster that development. It really does take a village to raise the future generation! Especially given the current situations we are facing today, I want to shed some light by providing value where I can.

Therefore, I piloted a free virtual storytime for families. There are a lot of changes right now, but our kids don’t stop growing and developing.

So I wanted to offer families a fun, interactive, and stress-free activity while also providing the adults with practical tips, tools and ideas to help with their developing child, especially for the kiddos from 0-5 years old, as research shows that brain development is at its highest at this age range.

For this upcoming storytime, I want to show parents how language and literacy can be included in different areas of development and daily routine activities.

What a better way to show that than talking about food!

In the Making Food Fun Virtual Storytime, I’ll be facilitating activities, reading books around food, and teaming up with Renata to provide parents with useful easy-to-digest insight and information that they can implement at home, such as helping their kiddos try new foods and getting them to eat their fruits and veggies. So come join us for the fun!
