I love chips!

I’m always looking for new and interesting alternatives to chips! The main reason is because I could literally eat a whole bag of chips by myself! So when the chip craving strikes, I really need to opt for a healthier chip alternative. The best and most used tool to making crispy chips at home is my air fryer. It makes small batches of chips which helps me with experimenting with chip ideas but also with portion control lol!If you’re looking for an air fryer, here’s a highly recommended air fryer from Amazon. This link is an affiliate link so I may receive a small compensation if you choose to purchase from this link. Thank you in advance! My newest fave chip is made from plantains! Have you ever had plantains before? It looks like a large green banana but it has so many uses. In other countries like Colombia or Venezuela, plantains are used as a mash, kind of like mashed potatoes, or they are use as fritters, or baked or fried to accompany meals. I love using plantains for chips because they become super crispy and they are a blank canvas for any kind of chip flavor that you like.Plantain Chips

Nutritional Benefits of Plantains vs Traditional Chips

Plantains are packed with nutrients. They are high in fiber, vitamins A, B6, and C (about 32% of your daily needs in just one cup), and they are high in potassium.

Plantain Chips

This makes plantain chips the perfect micronutrient-loaded alternative to traditional potato chips.Plus plantains are very inexpensive. At my local grocery store, they are usually about 48c each and my recipe for plantain chips makes 2 servings. That’s only 25c per serving! Now that’s my kinda value for money!Plantain Chips

Homemade Plantain Chips

A quick, easy and healthy chips alternative that can be made at home in an air fryer!

  • 1 plantain, (peeled, thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp olive oil
  1. In a medium sized bowl, toss together the sliced plantains, onion powder, garlic powder and olive oil, till thoroughly coated.

  2. Transfer the seasoned plantains to the air fryer basket, then bake for approximately 10 minutes at 350 deg F, or till golden brown and crispy. You may need to shake the air fryer basket 2-3 times during the baking process to ensure even browning.

  3. Enjoy immediately!

Store any leftovers in an airtight container or resealable bag to help retain crispness. The chips may lose a little of their crispy texture but will still be delicious!
